Sterling Silver vs. White Gold: What's the Difference?

At first glance, sterling silver and white gold look pretty much the same. Both metals have a bright, silvery appearance, but they differ in composition, care requirements, durability, and price.

White gold starts as yellow gold alloyed with metals like palladium or nickel to achieve a cooler tone. Even when mixed, the alloy still has some underlying warmth, most white gold jewelry is then rhodium-plated to get that bright, icy finish. White gold is beautiful, and it's a material we work with often. There are two things worth knowing if you're considering adding white gold to your stack: that thin plating will eventually wear down and require replating to maintain the look, and because it's a gold alloy, the price point is significantly steeper than silver.

Sterling silver, on the other hand, is a precious metal in its own right. Ours is 92.5% pure silver and made from 95% recycled material. It’s naturally cool-toned, and because there's no plating involved, what you see is what you get: a durable precious metal that won't wear down.

For those considering sterling silver vs. white gold, sterling silver offers an accessible entry point into fine jewelry without compromising on craftsmanship. Lightweight, comfortable, and designed for everyday wear, it remains one of the most enduring and versatile precious metals.

For the Silver Capsule, sterling silver felt like the natural choice. It allowed us to create heirloom-inspired designs rooted in symbolism and meaning while keeping them accessible enough to become part of your daily uniform.

Here's the story behind each piece:

Becoming

The rose has carried meaning across cultures for centuries. In the Victorian language of flowers, it was a symbol of devotion and remembrance. In older traditions, a symbol of protection, fortune, and life unfolding as it should. The Rose Becoming Signet draws on all of that, designed as a talisman for wherever you are in your own story and whatever you're growing into next.

A meaningful gift for: Marking a promotion, celebrating a birthday, commemorating a personal milestone, or simply honoring a new chapter.

How we wear it: The Rose Becoming Signet makes a statement on the pointer finger, where its sculptural silhouette and symbolism can take center stage.

Protection

Few symbols carry as much history as the scarab. Worn for centuries as an amulet of luck and transformation, it's long been associated with protection, renewal, and good fortune. Our take reimagines it as an everyday heirloom, something to keep close as a personal symbol of growth and whatever new beginning you're stepping into.

A meaningful gift for: Graduations, career changes, moves, milestone birthdays, or anyone entering a new chapter.

Styling tip: We love the Scarab Protection Charm layered on a yellow gold chain for an effortless mixed-metal moment. If you're wearing the bracelet, layer it with a diamond tennis bracelet to add a bit of contrast and shine while keeping the symbolism front and center.

Enduring

The lover's knot has been a symbol of unbreakable bonds since the Victorian era, when it was exchanged as a quiet promise of devotion between partners, friends, and family. Its endless loops have no clear beginning or end, representing two lives woven together, inseparable and lasting. The Alma Knot Ring is a fresh take on that tradition, made for whoever or whatever you're holding close.

A meaningful gift for: Promise rings, anniversaries, mother-daughter gifts, lifelong friendships, or any relationship worth honoring.

Styling tip: We especially love the Alma worn as a pinky ring, where its sculptural silhouette really shines. That said, its timeless design looks just as good on any finger, whether worn alone or stacked alongside your everyday favorites.
