The Perfect 2021 Gift: The Marrow Fine Birthstone Collection
December 17, 2020

We all know a woman in our lives that has everything. She always looks put together, she has the perfect accessory for every occasion, and she is impossible to buy for. That doesn’t mean that she doesn’t deserve an amazing gift from you this year that says “I know you, and I got you something special”. Cue, the Marrow Fine Birthstone collection.
First, what is a birthstone and why is it so special to someone?
To start, there are traditional and modern birthstones, each with their own special meaning. Traditional birthstones date back to ancient times, and it is believed that each birthstone held a special power or gave someone a new ability. People would try to collect and wear all twelve gems throughout the year as talismans or for therapeutic benefits. Most of the traditional birthstone gems were transparent and opaque gems, such as opal, pearl, and turquoise.
Modern birthstones got popular around 1912 when the US National Association of Jewelers released a more modern list of birthstones to include more gems. However, they kept the idea that each birthstone had a different meaning both for the giver and the receiver. For example: people that are born in July have a modern Ruby birthstone. Ruby symbolizes devotion, integrity, courage and happiness. Rubies are said to energize its wearer and encourage generosity.
So, not only are birthstones unique to each person, they symbolize what you wish for someone else or reflects their best personality traits
Now that you know what a birthstone is, lets run through some modern gems and what they mean
January: Garnet
Garnets can range in color but most of us know them as a dark red. Garnet signifies trust and friendship. Traditionally, this gem was believed to protect people during their travels.
